As a former smoker myself I only know too well how hard it is to stop smoking. Every smoker has their own methods that they use when trying to quit. These may include NRT (nicotine replacement therapy) such as patches, inhalers, drugs like Champix, or even just good old-fashioned going ‘cold turkey’. In health psychology there is a social-cognitive model called the health belief model which explains why people engage in unhealthy behaviors and what affects their decision-making process when they decide to stop doing something.

A study published in the International Journal of Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis shows that hypnotherapy can be useful and effective as a method of smoking cessation. Out of 81% of people who stopped smoking, 48% reported abstinence one year post-treatment.

The first session is the most important session of the programme and it usually takes twice as long as a regular hypnotherapy session. For this reason it costs twice as much as a regular hypnotherapy session. I take a detailed questionnaire about your smoking history as well as your motivation and reasons for stopping. It will aslo help me to determine the triggers for your smoking. We then we conduct the session which will be tailored to your circumstances. I will also give you a hypnotherapy MP3 recording (value £10) to have at home with you which will supplement the session and work we did together.
Many smokers stop smoking after this first session but I suggest that you have another follow up session in order to reaffirm the work we already did (included in the price). This session will also help should you experience any withdrawals (not all smokers do). And then if needed, you can have a free top up session within the 6 months after that.
